Kunchacko Boban is a romantic hero of Malayalam films who has got excellent acting skills and is loved by all audiences.He is the grandson of the late eminent producer and director M.Kunchacko who established the first full fledged film studio of Kerala ‘Udaya Studios’ at Alappuzha in the year 1947.At Udaya Studio M.Kunchacko produced large number of quality films in Malayalam and Kunchacko himself directed 40 films out of which several films were super hits.In 1951 another film studio by the name ‘Merryland Studios’ was set up at Trivandrum by P.Subramanyam who made 69 films and out of these 59 were directed by P.Subramanyam himself.A professional competition was prevailed between these two producers which ultimately helped the viewers to enjoy nice films produced by them.
After the death of Kunchacko his son Boban Kunchacko handed over Udaya Studios and he also produced a few films and directed films like ‘Sanchari,Palattu Kunjikkannan,Aazhi’ etc.Later outdoor shooting was largely utilized and film studios turned to be practically useless.
M.Kunchacko’s younger brother Appachan also set up a studio by name ‘Navodaya Studios’ later and he also produced some good films in Malayalam.The first 70 mm film and 3 D film in Malayalam were produced by Navodaya Studios.
Kunchacko Boban is born on November 2, 1976 as the son of Boban Kunchacko andMolly Kunchacko.He studied at S.D.College Alapuzha and after his degree Course he was made the lead character of the film ‘Aniyathi Pravu’ by director Fazil in the year 1997 when he was only 21 years old.Shalini was the heroine of this film and it was a big success.The film was produced by Sargachitra Appachan.It was about the love affair of two college students Sudheesh Kumar and Mini who belonged to two different communities.
Following the success of that film he was cast in films like ‘Nakshtratharattu,Mayilpeelikkavu,Prem Poojari,Ingane Oru Nilapakshi,Sahayathrikakku Snehapoorvam’etc. which were all well accepted by the audience.
Nakshtratharattu was directed by N.Shanker in 1998 in which Shalini was Kunchacko’s pair and he acted as a photographer while Shalini portrayed a model.
Prempujari, directed by Hariharan was a romantic comedy film.
In the year 1999 the romantic film ‘Niram‘ which was directed by Kamal was a huge hit.Shalini was the female lead of this film also which contained beautiful songs.This film was remade in Tamil,Telugu,Kannada and Hindi.
Dosth was the story of two college friends Vijay (Kunchacko Boban) and Ajith (Dileep).Thulasidas directed the film in which Kavya Madhavan was the female lead.
Sathyan Anthikad directed the film ‘Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka’ which was written by Sreenivasan.The film was a critical and commercial success.Popular actress Asin was the heroine and this was her debut film.
Swapnakoodu was a super hit film directed by Kamal in the year 2003 in which Prithviraj,Jayasoorya,and Kunchacko Boban acted in equally important roles.Meera Jasmine and Bhavana acted as female leads.This film was a big commercial success.
In the film Lollypop of 2008, Kunchacko Boban,Prithviraj,Jayasoorya Bhavana and Roma acted in the main roles.The film was directed by Shafi.
Kunchacko Boban,Bhama,Urvashy,Saikumar,Suraj Venjaramoodu etc acted in the comedy film ‘Sakudumbam Shyamala‘ directed by Radhakrishnan Mangalathu in 2010 which was a successful film.
Seniors was also a hit film in which Kunchacko Boban,Biju Menon,Jayaram,and Manoj K.Jayan acted in main roles.This mystery comedy film was released in 2011.
Sevens was a sports action film directed by Joshy in 2011 in which Kunchacko Boban,Nivin Pauly,Asif Ali,Aju Varghese,Bhama etc acted.
In the super hit comedy theme film Ordinary he acted as a KSRTC bus conductor and Biju Menon as a driver.
Romans was a comedy suspense thriller of 2013 in which Kunchacko Boban,Niveda Thomas and Biju Menon portrayed key roles.
In the same year 2013, Visudhan was directed by Vysakh in which Kunchacko Boban acted as Fr.Sunny and Mia George as Sister Sophy.
In the film ‘How Old Are You’ directed by Roshan Andrews in 2014, Manju Warrier,Kunchacko Boban,Kanika and Lalu Alex were in lead roles.The film was remade in Tamil as ’36 Vayathinile’ with Jyothika as the female lead.
His spouse is Priya Ann Samuel.
