Bollywood actress Swara Bhasker sourced the dress for her Walima ceremony — a wedding ceremony and reception — which was recently held in Bareilly, in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh from Pakistan. And the dress for her and her husband Fahad Ahmad, underwent a long journey before making it to the wedding ceremony. From Lahore to Dubai and then Mumbai, Delhi and Bareilly, which is Ahmed’s hometown. The ‘Nila Baatey Sannata’ and ‘Veere Di Wedding’ actress thanked Ali Xeeshan Theatre Studio for designing her outfits. “Ali Xeeshan not only sent Jodi (pair) outfits for @FahadZirarAhmad & me, but customised them painstakingly with personalised details & messages embroidered into the exquisite garments,” she wrote on Twitter. Ahmad is an activist with the Samajwadi Party, which has influence in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. The former chief minister of the state, Akhilesh Yadav, heads the political party. Ahmad served as general secretary of the Tata Institute of Social Science Student’s Union.

Friends and family members turned up at the reception in Bareilly, which was hosted by Ahmad’s family. While Bhasker wore the gold lehenga by Ali Xeeshan and completed her look with a tradtiional nose ring, Ahmad matched her opulent outfit with a gold sherwani.

The couple skipped the traditional wedding ceremony, opting instead only for a registered marriage. Bhasker, who has also starred in the Bollywood hits ‘Ranjhanaa’ and the sitcoms ‘Rasbhari’ and ‘Flesh’, said the two met at a political rally three years ago when they fell in love.

Bhasker’s father, C Uday Bhaskar, is a retired Commodre from the Indian Navy who heads an independent think-tank in New Delhi. Her mother, Ira Bhasker, is a noted academician and is a professor of cinema studies at the Jawaharlal Nehru University.

Bhasker and Ahmad got married in February. The couple then threw a reception in Delhi, which was attended by many leading Indian politicians. Some of them included Indian National Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Shashi Tharoor, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, actress-politician Jaya Bachchan from the Samajwadi Party and Surpiya Sule from the Nationalist Congress Party. Swara and Fahad shared pictures from their reception on social media. Bhasker wore a pink lehenga for the event, while Ahmad wore an ivory and gold sherwani.
