Sreelatha was born to parents Balakrishnan Nair and Kamalamma at Karuvatta in Alappuzha district.Yesteryear actress Kumari Thankam is her father’s sister.Sreelatha entered K.P.A.C Drama troupe as a singer while she was a high school student and soon started to act on stage.In the year 1967 she got chance to act in the film ‘Khadeeja’ and since she got other offers continuously from films she chose to act in films rather than on stage.

She used to appear in supporting roles during the early stages of her acting career mostly as the close  friend or sister of the heroine.Adoor Bhasi, the top comedy actor of those period realized her skill to portray comedy roles and made her his pair in large number of films.In many CID type films and other entertainment type  films of directors like Sasikumar,A.B.Raj,Crossbelt Mani etc, Prem Nazir used to be the hero and Adoor Bhasi his close friend.In CID type films Nazir would be the detective and Bhasi his assistant.Bahadoor also was included along with Adoor Bhasi. 

The trio, Adoor Bhasi,Sreelatha and Bahadoor created comedy ideas and scenes  by  themselves and  performed nice comedy   to amuse the audience in numerous films.In that period it was the duty and task of the comedy actors to create the comedy scenes to be performed in the film  by themselves.In CID type films Adoor Bhasi,Sreelatha and Bahadoor used to act like fools to find out and reveal the secrets of the culprits which in turn became excellent comedy sequences.

Actress Meena used to act as mother of Sreelatha in such kind of films and she was also capable of playing comedy roles effectively well like Sreelatha.There are numerous unforgettable comedy scenes portrayed by this team in large number of films of the 70’s.Sreelatha was also a playback singer in Malayalam films during the 70’s who sung many songs out of which some are still popular.She sang comedy songs also along with Adoor Bhasi for certain films and the song like “Angadi marunnukal njan cholli tharam Oronnay” were very much liked by the audience.

Sreelatha underwent classical music training from the famous music composer and classical music exponent Dakshina Murthy.She has performed several classical music concerts and earned name and prestige in that field also.
She married Ayurvedic Physician Dr.Kalady Namboothiri and settled as a housewife at kunnamkulam near Guruvayoor in the early 80’s but was still appearing in films occasionally.Her husband Dr.Namboothiri was also an occasional actor who appeared in films like ‘Hridayam Oru Kshetram’ died in the year 2005, and after his death Sreelatha Namboothiri again became active in films.She  acts in T.V. serials also and at present acting in serials like ‘Karutha Muthu’ on Asianet Channel.

Unnimary was cast in almost all Vadakkan pattu filmsmade during those period such as Kannappanunni,Thacholi Ambu etc and such costumes suited her very much.She was looking gorgeous in
Vadakkan pattu  story films and mythological story films.She had acted in several stunt films wearing  dress that
reveals body parts.
Unnimary had acted in many films in respectable type roles as well.In ‘Jeevitham Oru Ganam’ she was in a good role and Madhu and Sreevidya were in main roles.That film was directed by Sreekumaran Thampi.
In the film ‘Nagamadathu Thampuratty’ her transcendent appearance as the queen of the Serpents was very pretty and received accolades.The song scene  by singing  ‘Somarasam pakarum lahari…’ was superb.
In the Only Maniratnam directed Malayalam film ‘Unaroo’Unnimary handled an impportant role.Mohan Lal was the hero of that film.
In the films  ‘Thinkalazcha Nalla Divasam’ and ‘Arappatta Kettiya Gramathil’ which were P.Padmarajan films
and in which Mammootty was the hero, Unnimary was in main female roles.Both the films were critically well acclaimed and were unforgettable films.
In the Balachandra Menon’s  “Kanamarayathu‘ also Unnimary handled prestigious role which received much appreciation.
In the film ‘Chitram’ which was a blockbuster film of Priyadarshan in which Mohan Lal and Ranjini acted in
main roles, Unnimary acted as the daughter of Sukumari.Sreenivasan acted as her brother who was eagerly
trying to find out the secrets about Mohan Lal with the help of his sister.Sreenivasan peeping through the ventilation of the bedroom to take a photograph of Kalyani(Ranjini) sleeping alone created much laughter
when caught red handed by his Uncle.
Unnimary is not acting in films at present.

SHALINI AND SHAMILI

The south Indian film goers   were highly delighted to experience

the acting talents of Baby Shalini in 1983 in the film ‘Ente Mamattikuttiammakku’ and her younger sisterBaby Shamily years later in the film ‘Malootty’.

They were very cute babies  and excelled fantastically well to the astonishment of the spectators.To

understand the situation of the sequence in childhood  and to perform it in front of the whole

film unit members was a special blessing of God itself.For example Shalini gets the main credit

of the film ‘Ente Mamattikutty Ammakku‘ which was directed by Fazil in 1983 when Shalini

would be only three years of age.The perception of the character was superb  and she got

Kerala State Award  for Best Child artist.

Thereafter she was frequently appearing in several Malayalam,Tamil and Telugu films in

important roles as a child artist.She got  Andhapradesh State award for child artist

for the film Brahmaputrudu.

Shalini was born on 20 Nov at Chennai to parents Sharaf Babu and Alice Sharaf Babu.Even

 though she was busy with her films then also she continued with her studies.She was a student at Adarsh Vidyalaya,Chennai during her 9th and 10th standards.She studied in another school at Chennai for 11th and 12th class.She finished 2nd year B.B.A course of Anna Malai

University also.

Shalini was engaged as a child artist during the period 1983 to 1990 and afterwards she took

a break for her studies and again appeared as  heroine in the film ‘Aniyathi Pravu’ which was

directed by Fazil and Produced by Appachan of Navodaya  Studio in 1997.She continued acting in lead roles till her marriage in 2001. Shalini had  debuted as a child artist in the film Mamattikutty Ammakku which was also  under the same team of Appachan and Fazil.

Aniyathi Pravu was a blockbuster film which was a box office hit in which the Kunchakko

Boban-Shalini pair was very much liked by the audience and  the same pair was utilized 

for other Malayalam films ‘Prem poojari’ and  ‘Niram’ which all earned critical acclaim and

were all big hits also.

In the musical romantic film Aniyathi Pravu Thilakan,Innocent,Jnardhanan,KPAC Lalitha,

Sreevidya etc acted.Sudheesh impressed  the audience by his role as ‘Radha Madhavan’.

In the Mammootty film ‘Kaliyoonjal’ directed by ‘Anil Babu’ Shalini acted as the sister of Mammootty and as an epilepsy patient.She  suicides  in the picture after becoming the

mother of a child leaving the child in her brother’s hands because of the tragic death of

her husband.

‘Niram’ was a colorful college campus musical film directed by Kamal.Jomol,Boban Alummoodan,KPAC Lalitha,Lalu Alex,Prem Prakash etc acted in that film along with

Shalini and Kunchacko Boban.The film earned good response from the audience and

 director Kamal himself remade it in Tamil in the name ‘Piriyadhe Varam Vendum’.

In the Tamil version also Shalini was in the main female role .Krishna,Manivannan,Manorama,Ambika etc acted in the film.

Tamil film ‘Amarkalam’ was an action film of Shalini and Ajith and was  directed by Saran.

‘Alaipayudhe’ was Mani Ratnam film which was a romantic drama film which  received

much accolades from critics and spectators.It was shown at Berlin International festival in 2001

and later shown in several National and Int’l film festivals.It was  remade in Hindi as ‘Saathiya’ starring Rani Mukherjee and  Vivek Oberoi.

‘Amudhe’ was directed by ‘Jeeva’ in which Jagapati Raju,Akkineni Nagarjuna,Shalini,Sreevidya,Manivannan,Abbas etc acted.It was the remake of Hindi film ‘Deewangee’.

Shalini and Shamili’s brother Richard is also an established actor of Tamil films.

Shalini married actor Ajith in 2001  and now they are  leading a happy life and  as a house wife and the mother of

a cute baby girl Shalini is quite busy.

Shamili also gained the love and admiration of millions as a child artist. In the film ‘Malootty’whichwas directed by Bharathan, Shamily 

at the age of two  presented extraordinary talent in  acting  with Jayaram and Urvashy.The child

 falling in to a deep pit in a hotel yard and the task of  rescuing her was the theme.The small

child patiently co-operating with the film unit was  incredible.

She presented unusual talent in presenting the role  of a mentally challenged child ‘Anjali’

in the film ‘Anjali’ which was directed byMani Ratnam and bagged National award for Best

Child artist.

She also appeared in several films as a  child artist and took long break for her studies later  but

appeared as younger sister of Mammootty and Mohan Lal in ‘Hari Krishnans’ in 1998 as

a teen age girl.

She is now  acting in a Telugu  film ‘Oy’ in the directional debut of ‘Anand Ranga’ and the movie will be

 releasing on July 3. This is the debut film of Shamily as a heroine and she is the latest upcoming heroine in the south and critics  are sure that she will  win

the hearts of all film lovers.
