The battery is the one aspect of smartphones that users tend to worry about the most. Although this is very challenging given that these apps drain the battery, we start thinking about different ways to reduce energy consumption and increase its battery life as soon as the device is turned on.

Although they are not always successful, we are accustomed to taking a variety of steps to extend the battery of the smartphone as much as possible. Primarily because we now know which applications are the most dangerous in this regard. Because they completely deplete energy with just the use of them.

The Top 10 apps that drain your battery

Smartphone charging via cable in a car

There are countless applications for your Android device in the Google Play Store. There are services for everything, but on the whole, users tend to download the same popular apps. However, in order to best care for the battery in your smartphone. There are some of them that you should avoid downloading or using less often.
Be cautious, while some of these applications are quite helpful and should be installed on our smartphones, others can be disastrous for those who already experience battery issues. So examine whether you actually require them. The list of apps with the highest energy usage is as follows:
  • Fitbit
  • Uber
  • Skype
  • Facebook
  • Airbnb
  • Instagram
  • Tinder
  • Bumble
  • Snapchat
  • WhatsApp
The organization that has compiled this data is pCloud, a research firm. To achieve this, they created a list of applications that use the battery of the device the most. And the end result is shown here. No matter how great these platforms are, according to the entity, they are affecting the battery life really hard.

Actuality, they are very well popular apps, and you may have more than one of them on your phone. Since they can still use some of the battery in the background, it might be more convenient for you to get rid of some if you don’t use it frequently, especially if you’ve had battery issues in the past.
They were able to determine which of the 100 most popular apps is the most demanding and name them the ultimate phone killers by combining the results of these three factors.

Fitbit and Verizon are the most apps that drain your battery

The two best phone competitors were Fitbit and Verizon. 14 of the 16 resources that are available can be in use by both apps in the background. Including the four most resource-intensive ones. The camera, location, microphone, and wifi connection. Due to this, these apps received the highest study score (92.31%).

Social media apps

Social media apps account for six of the top 20 battery-intensive apps on your phone. On average, 11 additional resources —including photos, wifi, locations, and the microphone. They can run in the background on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Youtube, WhatsApp, and Linkedin. Each of these uses more energy to operate, which puts more strain on your phone’s battery.

Online dating apps

According to the research, online dating apps use the phone’s battery just as quickly as your emotions do. 15% of the top killer apps are online dating apps like Tinder, Bumble, and Grinder. Which permit an average of 11 resources to run in the background. The lack of a dark mode makes all three dating apps more energy-intensive to use, which accelerates battery drain.

Travel apps

The United Airlines app uses up the most phone storage (437.8MB). Followed by the Lyft and Uber apps with storage requirements of 325.1MB and 299.6MB, respectively. All of these apps require a lot of storage, which slows down your phone and uses up storage.
Fortunately, when you’re not traveling, you can easily delete travel apps like United Airlines. When thinking about how to free up phone storage, these should be the first to go. Additionally, less extensive airlines like Ryanair and Jet2 only need 109.2MB of storage and 47.3MB, respectively. Both can be easily exchanged.
However, when it comes to having convenient transportation on a daily basis, apps like Lyft and Uber are more of a necessity. Make sure to only have one trustworthy transportation app. So you can save space for other apps and make your phone run faster rather than deleting both of them.

How to stop apps from draining your battery

Many people might be pondering whether you ought to remove these apps from your smartphone in order to free up storage and battery life. In this regard, it’s crucial to emphasize that this precaution does not need to be perfect. Because you can opt to turn off background activity or location permissions.
Despite not being open, every Android app functions in the background. Just like other services like Instagram and Facebook, WhatsApp does it to send you relevant notifications. It is possible to fix this issue. But you should be aware that doing so will prevent you from receiving notifications until you re-enter the platform. As a result, we advise you to only use this procedure in special circumstances. And not with applications that are absolutely necessary:

  1. Enter your Android smartphone’s settings.
  2. Go to “Battery” in the menu.
  3. Choose “Optimize battery use” under “Advanced settings” from the menu.
  4. Tap “Don’t optimize” after selecting the apps you want to disable background activity from.

Apple has recently released a new iPhone update iOS 16.3.1, The new update will include ‘optimisations’ for the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro’s Crash Detection feature, which made news and was also criticised by some personnel from the search and rescue who witnessed find the causing of the false alarms during winter sports activities.

Along with that, there are a couple of more fixes which got included in the latest update, including those for iCloud settings and Siri requests for the Find My app. Apple Inc has also released new software for HomePods, Mac OS and tvOS, as per the report of The Verge.
The Crash Detection feature will alert emergency services to the new iPhones and Apple Watches when the users are unresponsive after a “severe car crash”. It will enable the service by default, however, some officials have said that the feature has caused several false reports that have logged the time and resources of first responders, mentioned IANS in a report.
In December 2022, it was reported that the Apple devices of skiers in the USA were sending automated crash warnings to dispatchers at the Summit County 911 Center, and this made the news. Although none of them was involved in an emergency, they took a while to handle the situation because of the crash warning and further required ski patrollers to go to the location of the automated call if the skier did not answer a call from dispatchers.
This is not the first time that Apple has optimised crash detection, as per IANS.
Following this report, another false alert got triggered when the iPhone users were riding rollercoasters. Earlier in November 2022, Apple released the iOS 16.1.2 update, which included system changes.
The report further stated that the tech giant did not explicitly state that the update was intended to address false positives, nor did it mention the latest update which got intended to address the issues with snow sports. But there were no mentions when many reports of rollercoasters triggering the crash alerts when it got released.

India Bans 138 Chinese Betting Apps In Yet Another Digital Surgical Strike; Here’s The Full List https://idnsek.com/2023/02/08/india-bans-138-chinese-betting-apps-in-yet-another-digital-surgical-strike-heres-the-full-list/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=india-bans-138-chinese-betting-apps-in-yet-another-digital-surgical-strike-heres-the-full-list https://idnsek.com/2023/02/08/india-bans-138-chinese-betting-apps-in-yet-another-digital-surgical-strike-heres-the-full-list/#respond Wed, 08 Feb 2023 16:32:00 +0000 https://idnsek.com/2023/02/08/india-bans-138-chinese-betting-apps-in-yet-another-digital-surgical-strike-heres-the-full-list/ 36 Views

  •  The ban has come after MHA directed MeitY to block access to 232 betting and digital loan apps with links to China
  • The banned apps were reportedly found flouting Section 69 of the IT Act
  • Among the apps that have been banned include Betway, 1xBet, and Lotus 365, among others
Escalating its digital surgical strike on China, India has now undertaken a fresh round of app bans in the country, targeting as many as 138 offshore betting platforms.
India Bans 138 Chinese Betting Apps

In an order issued on February 5, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) directed the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to ban and block as many as 232 apps that either originate or have links to China. These included 138 betting apps and 94 online lending apps.
(ads1)
Sources said that the apps in question were flouting Section 69 of the IT Act. Additionally, senior officials of the ministry are of the opinion that these apps contained material, which was purportedly a threat to the sovereignty and integrity of the country.

India’s Crackdown On China-Linked Apps

Another overarching theme that appears to have figured prominently in the government’s debate on the matter was that these lending apps were trapping Indians in debt and were charging exorbitant interest rates on Indian consumers.
The ban comes amid growing clamour from citizens and consumers to tighten noose on digital loan apps, which have been accused of harassing borrowers. The situation has been complicated by the presence of Chinese entities and nationals that operate such platforms.
In the ongoing crackdown on such apps over the course of last year, it has emerged that many of these Chinese lending apps take control of users’ phones and send sensitive information to digital lenders. In many cases, it has emerged that many such apps allegedly blackmail people with morphed pictures during debt collection.
These platforms have pushed many into debt traps. As a result, many instances of young and adults dying by suicide have come to the fore in the past few years. While the government has directed Google to clamp down on such apps on its marketplace, efforts have so far yielded very few results.

Surprisingly, the websites of homegrown lendingtech players such as Prosus-backed PayU’s LazyPay and Kissht have been blocked in the country, although their apps can still be downloaded from Google’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store.
On the other hand, betting apps have also hit the news for all the wrong reasons. Many such platforms lure users with high returns and then trap them into a cycle of heavy payments but no winnings.
Instances have also emerged where many Chinese nationals allegedly operated multiple entities, in connivance with Indians, to operate fraud online gaming platforms. Many such platforms have also used proceeds from these fake apps to launder money and send them across the border.
These betting websites operate without any oversight and are based outside India, making it difficult to prosecute these companies in the event of a legal case.
Many of these betting platforms have also been operating under the garb of sports blogs and employ surrogate methods to woo users.
(ads2)
This comes close on the heels of the Indian government directing search giant Google to stop displaying all kinds of ads from overseas online betting companies. Earlier, the union government had also urged the broadcasters and video streaming services to not air ads related to online betting.
The move comes nearly a year after the Union government banned 54 apps over apprehensions of either having originated in China or having some Chinese connection.
The app ban saga began in 2020 after the centre imposed the very first ban of 59 apps in June that year. Big names, including short video platform TikTok, file sharing app ShareIt, and UC Browser, among other popular apps were affected in the melee.
In between, multiple bans were imposed, which impacted as many as 320 Chinese apps. Counting the current 232 apps, the total number now stands at 552.

Remittances to India reaches historic high. https://idnsek.com/2023/01/27/remittances-to-india-reaches-historic-high/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=remittances-to-india-reaches-historic-high https://idnsek.com/2023/01/27/remittances-to-india-reaches-historic-high/#respond Fri, 27 Jan 2023 09:09:00 +0000 https://idnsek.com/2023/01/27/remittances-to-india-reaches-historic-high/ 26 Views
In 2022, remittances to India hit a record high, with the World Bank’s Migration and Development Brief putting the number at $100 billion (Dh367 billion). A large chunk of this currency came from the GCC countries, helped along by the countries’ curb of inflation, demand for workers, and the rupee’s depreciation against the US dollar.
The GCC countries’ economic situation, which accounts for 30 per cent of India’s remittances, therefore worked to India’s advantage, says Rashed A. Al Ansari, CEO of Al Ansari Exchange, which has been in service for over 50 years.
In a normal year, remittances to India are forecast to rise by 4 per cent — this level was surpassed by more than double last year, he adds. “India is among the largest recipients of cross-border remittances, with projections revealing that its remittance flows will have climbed to a record-breaking $100 billion in 2022 from $89.4 billion in 2021, growing at 12 per cent compared to 7.5 per cent,” says Al Ansari.
Both macro and micro economic factors played into the Indian inflow. Adeeb Ahamed, Managing Director, LuLu Financial Holdings, explains: “In the year 2022, Indian rupee had weakened more than 11 per cent against the US dollar amid continuously rising interest rate scenario and hawkish stance of US Federal Reserve.
“Apart from these macroeconomic factors, we are also witnessing a gradual structural shift, wherein many Indians are getting high-skilled and well-paid jobs in the region. Increase in income among Indian expats is also one of the reasons for the growth in remittances from the UAE to India.”
Digital transformation drives growth
Transfers were also helped along by the exchange houses’ foresight as they tapped the digital model of remittance. During the pandemic, overall customer behaviour in remittances shifted to digital channels from physical transactions. “Since then, we have seen a transition towards a hybrid, omnichannel approach whereby customers proactively seek choice in how they transfer money — based on convenience and needs. Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) have been no exception. India is the largest remittance recipient country in the world,” explains Hatem Sleiman, Head of Middle East, Pakistan and Afghanistan, Western Union.
Al Ansari adds that by looking at a digital solution, the companies have resolved a number of industry-related challenges. “Sending and receiving remittances, for instance, can be made much more convenient, swift, secure and affordable with these advancements. Similarly, we are seeing an increase in the use of technology in the UAE, where people are looking for reliable and fast ways to send money,” he says.
By using different payment plan models and offering competitive rates made even better by loyalty programmes, exchange houses are making remittance much easier and more accessible.
Sleiman says almost 70 per cent of the stellar firm’s NRI customer base currently transfers money directly into bank accounts in India. “Today, approximately 3.5 million NRIs live in the UAE, forming the largest expatriate community in the country. As this diaspora grows, we expect growth of the remittance corridor to follow,” he adds.
Competitive price points and exchange rates have also helped Indians grow the remittance pot. Western Union fees for money transfer from over 800 locations in the UAE, for example, start at Dh15.
In the next few years, say the experts, remittance from the UAE is expected to grow manifold thanks to the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), signed by the UAE and India. “It has the potential to further increase bilateral trade by $100 billion over the next five years,” says Al Ansari.
“We are expecting about 12-15 per cent growth in remittances from the UAE to India in 2023,” says Ahamed.

Digital media refers to the online space on an electronic device to create, distribute, view and store the content encrypted through a machine-readable platform.
What Is Digital Media And Its Types?
The advent of digital media and the dependence on it has increased over the last few years. For many, the news source is digital news platforms, and less on television. Users engage and communicate through the tech-enabled media for their businesses as well. Digital media refers to the online space on an electronic device to create, distribute, view and store the content encrypted through a machine-readable platform.

There is a blend of digital media products being offered with a variety of skills. Its effects can be discovered in the video, animation, eCommerce, websites, mobile applications, data visualisation, and interactive storytelling. At the same time, the industries include Television, Government, Sports, Health, Education, Marketing and advertising, Environment and others.

The emphasis lies on multi-skilled groups, engaging with various modern, creative business processes, and making digital media products that deliver value for people. The government uses digital media to post general information on its handles to share with the public.

For instance, the White House posts information on its website or through different ways such as social media accounts, various news articles or television broadcasts. Similarly, the Indian government’s Press Information Bureau (PIB) also releases notifications from different departments.

Companies have more control over digital media and can share or alter information accordingly. For instance, if a company prints an advertisement in the newspaper, they can’t make modifications once it has gone to press for publishing. However, if it procured an online ad, it can contact its advertising department and have them withdraw the ad, including making suitable changes and sending it back.

The following are the types of digital media:

  • Owned media: It is an online asset that one monitors. It gives uniqueness to the brand. Digital media platforms comprise websites, social media channels, blogs, videos and others. Now, one can quickly write blogs and make videos passionately to enhance the skills. If one optimises the owned media for Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), the business will display when prospective clients search for topics that matter to what the person provides. It improves the visibility of the business. Owned media allows aspiring people to showcase their talent in a particular industry. Consistency has to be maintained so that it maximises the growth of the business.
  • Earned Digital Media: The customers generate the advertising when they are vocal about the brand through word of mouth, social media, feedback, testimonials, shares, and re-posts. It is the best form of promotion a business can have as it lowers customer acquisition costs and leads the way to growth. The move comes hours after a court in southern Tamil Nadu state refused a request by China’s Bytedance Technology to suspend a ban on its TikTok app, putting its future in one of its key markets in doubt.

The state court had on April 3 asked the federal government to ban TikTok, saying it encouraged pornography and made child users vulnerable to sexual predators. Its ruling came after an individual launched a public interest litigation calling for a ban.

The federal government had sent a letter to Apple and Google to abide by the state court’s order, according to an IT ministry official.

The app was still available on Apple’s platforms late on Tuesday, but was no longer available on Google’s Play store in India.

Google said in a statement it does not comment on individual apps but adheres to local laws. Apple did not respond to requests for comment, while TikTok did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Google’s move.

TikTok, which allows users to create and share short videos with special effects, has become hugely popular in India but has been criticised by some politicians who say its content is inappropriate.

It had been downloaded more than 240 million times in India, app analytics firm Sensor Tower said in February. More than 30 million users in India installed it in January 2019, 12 times more than in the same month last year.

Jokes, clips and footage related to India’s thriving movie industry dominate the app’s platform, along with memes and videos in which youngsters, some scantily clad, lip-sync and dance to popular music.

Bytedance challenged the state court’s ban order in India’s Supreme Court last week, saying it went against freedom of speech rights in India.

The top court had referred the case back to the state court, where a judge on Tuesday rejected Bytedance’s request to put the ban order on hold, K. Neelamegam, a lawyer arguing against Bytedance in the case, said.

TikTok earlier said in a statement that it had faith in the Indian judicial system and was “optimistic about an outcome that would be well received by millions” of its users. It did not comment further on the judge’s decision.

The company however welcomed the decision to appoint a senior lawyer to assist the court in upcoming proceedings.

The state court has requested written submissions from Bytedance in the case and has scheduled its next hearing for April 24.

Salman Waris, a technology lawyer at TechLegis Advocates & Solicitors, said the legal action against Bytedance could set a precedent of Indian courts intervening to regulate content on social media and other digital platforms.

In its Supreme Court filing, Bytedance argued that a “very minuscule” proportion of TikTok content was considered inappropriate or obscene.

The company employs more than 250 people in India and had plans for more investment as it expands the business, it said
